Not to get all gushy, but while I am always pretty psyched to have this blog, at times like this I'm double super especially grateful to have a space to swap tips and tricks with like-minded glitter enthusiasts!
First of all, I posted about the Ami Club Wear doorbusters sale and how the "catch" was expensive shipping, and a reader commented with this amazing hack: you can add a regular priced item to bring the total up to $50+ and still get free shipping and I tried it today and it WORKED. AMAZING!!! Thank you, Sarah Williamson: you are my favorite person. Let's ride a bicycle made out of dreams into friendship.
Secondly, I am absolutely over-the-moon excited about the September workshops. Yes, plural. So many people responded that I shifted the schedule around so I could offer two classes that day instead of one and fit twice as many ladies (yeah, I'm going to be dead by the end of the day, but what of it?) I cannot wait to meet all of you and glitter with you and its just going to be so amazing I can't wait!!! Lots of work to prep ahead of me, but I can tell it's going to so be worth it.
I'm feeling so full of love that I'm going to have a GIVEAWAY!!
Here's how it's going to work: between now and midnight of Wednesday September 9 comment here telling me about your favorite Muses shoe (a link/picture is helpful, but not essential) and why it was your favorite. Note that it does not have to be one of mine, I promise to be objective!! I'm going to pick my top 10 favorite entries and my husband (MIT degree in computer science) will use a random number generator to pick a winner.
The prize will be THIRTY SHOES - an entire year's ride's worth of shoes. Unglittered, but ready for you to unleash their Muse-y fantasticness. When my Ami Club Wear order arrives, I will post a picture of my 30 selections, but I will try to go as stripper-tastic as possible.
If you win, you (or some proxy you appoint) must be able to come pick the 30 shoes up during the September workshop hours, so some time between 12 and 6 pm on Saturday
So, start commenting here, share with Muses you know, and I'll update with a picture of the shoes in question as soon as possible.
Love and glitter, y'all.
There are so many beautiful Muses shoes out there that I should ask if I'm limited to one entry! Choosing my favorite, I select the shoe inspired by the Mercedes-Benz Superdome entitled "Dome Sweet Dome." I don't know the year or who decorated her, but she is highly prized. The owner has her displayed under glass!

Oh wow that one really is lovely - I like that's she's made an unusual shoe shape work so perfectly and the color scheme and rhinestones are just perfect. Great display too!! I often wish there was a museum of hand made throws where I could go appreciate them like the works of art/artifacts of cultural significance they are!! I think multiple entries per person are fine to make it into the top 10 for the random number generator, but everyone can only make it into the top ten once....how about that?
DeleteI checked on this... the Dome Sweet Dome shoe was done by Kim Finney. She's the amazing Muse that did the entire wall of Muses shoes inside of Club XLIV. If you're not familiar with Club XLIV - it's the VIP lounge attached to Champions Square outside of the Superdome. It's amazing!!!!!! Anyhow - she's one hard working Muse - she's a float lieutenant and the merchandise chair!!!! She made that shoe as a thank you to a VP in the Dome for a favor and now it's displayed in the Dome!
DeleteVery cool! I have seen pics of the display at Club XLIV, but never seen it in person. Thank you for the detective work and for sharing your findings here, really neat stuff!!
DeleteThank you for the history! I've seen a pinned pic of the wall at Club XLIV on Pinterest, but have never been. I'm looking forward to checking out the wall in person.
DeleteI agree with Glitter Buzz NOLA, its so hard to pick a favorite of all that I've seen; however, I do love the Pat O'Brien's shoe that you did. I had a roommate that bartended there for years, so a lot of my time during my 20's was spent there. Pick Me Pick Me Mr. MIT!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tara!! The Pat O's shoe was really fun to make, good memories.
DeleteI love all of your shoes!! As much as I love my shoes, they are nothing compared to yours. I have so many favorites, but the one that stands out to me in the Vintage Mardi Gras shoe. http://glitteringshoes.blogspot.com/2013/08/vintage-mardi-gras-shoe.html
ReplyDeleteA close 2nd is the Retro Tattoo Shoe-when I saw this shoe last year, I told my aunt that she had to see your blog because you are so talented & have some wonderful tips.
=)
It's so hard to pick a favorite since I've seen so many good ones. My favorite I've ever caught was this Clue shoe (Colonel Mustard) made by my friend Teena Whitmore. https://instagram.com/p/zBtOCSA-fJ/?taken-by=nolamaven And I love this Lisa Frank show that you did. https://instagram.com/p/5La1u5wipA/?taken-by=glitter_addict_nola Clearly I have a lot to learn. I just bought some shoes from Ami Club Wear but didn't get any of the $2.99 ones, unfortunately (or maybe one pair). I thought about placing another order when I saw that sale but skipped it because of shipping. :/ I'm looking forward to your workshop!
ReplyDeleteThey still have shoes for $1.99 & $2.99- maybe you can order with someone else on your float to get the free shipping. Or if you find a pair on clearance that gets your total up to $50, you can get free shipping.
DeleteThat Clue Shoe is awesome! I've started grabbing old board games when I spot them in good shape at Thrift Stores (Monopoly, Clue, Candyland and most recently a Chess Set). All the Ami Club shoes I've purchased have been cheap but good quality, so I'm sure you got a good deal even if it wasn't doorbusters with free shipping. I love me some thrifting, but there's something nice about having a brand new pair to glitter.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite shoe is a monster shoe I decorated in 2014. It was the first year I rode in Muses and decorated shoes so it will always have a special place in my favorites list. This is also an example of something not what it started out as but ending up as something I like better. it was supposed to be an alligator but slowly evolved :) It was the first time I combined 2 shoes and the first time I used air dry clay to change a shoe's shape.
So cool that you have such a good pic of shoes from your first ride! I don't have many pictures from our first year glittering. And very impressive that you did a shape mod your first year! It took me a long time to work up to that. Awesome shoe, thanks for sharing!!
DeleteIs it tacky to pick your own shoe?!?!?! My favorite shoe I ever decorated was inspired by Wicked. It was the first time I attempted to do characters and it's the first time shoes I wore to brunch got legitimate attention. I can't tell you how many people offered to buy these from me!!!! https://www.pinterest.com/pin/203295370653001554/
ReplyDeleteOf course not tacky!! And especially those Wicked shoes of yours...they're iconic Muses shoes and really emblematic of your style. I have similar feelings of attachment to my Hubig's Pie shoe, not because it's the best/prettiest/cleverest shoe I've ever done, but because it was the first one I got, as you put it, legitimate attention for.
DeleteMy favorite shoe of all time trumps shoes I've created! lol The shoe that stands out to me (that I've shown so many people) is the Shrimp Po Boy shoe you made out of flip flops last year. It is the most creative shoe I've seen and I just love it! When I think of creative Muses shoes, this is the one that comes to mind first! And the fact that you created and glittered everything on it is amazing!!!
ReplyDelete2016 will be my first year riding in Muses and i am more excited then EVER. I am very new to the glittering of shoes but i have admired Nori's shoes for some time. I grew up in New Orleans and in the HOT HOT HOT summer i always thought about swimming at the Club and then of course SNOWBALLS. so my favorite shoe of all time is your GREAT BIG SNOWBALL shoes. i love them. The colors, the flavors the fact that they look so life like. THEY ARE AMAZING. thank you fo r this amazing blog i love seeing your creations.
ReplyDeleteBefore I hand it over to hubby for the randomization, reader Tish emailed in this entry: "My brother is a Game of Thrones fan so I made him a shoe inspired by House Stark's motto: Winter is Coming. It's an icy white low boot lined with white wolf fur (complete with tail) and emblazoned with a transfer of the direwolf from the Stark flag. Of course I had to adjust the motto a bit to "Muses is Coming."" She attached an amazing picture, hopefully she'll ok me sharing it here.
ReplyDeleteShe emailed before the deadline, I just wanted to make sure her entry was up here so no one was worried I cheated!
