Jingle, jangle, jingle... here comes Mr. Bingle!

With a message from Kris Kringle!

No time to post details/specs, but here are pictures of my 2015 Mr. Bingle Shoe, just in time for the Holiday season!

(Sorry the pictures aren't better, it's tough to hold the phone steady with an infant in one arm)

  2. Hi again! Thank you so much for the tips back in July on the lettering transfer application. I'm almost finished with my shoes, and they are an assortment of
"okay" to "pretty alright for a first timer." I have definitely had to toss a few that turned out way worse than I originally meant :)

One question--I'm thinking of doing striping or a diamond print. Do you have a tip on getting clean lines? I was thinking of using painter's tape, but I thought that might remove the glitter from sections I've already done.

Or should I do transfers for each stripe or diamond? I really appreciate your site, and it's awesome that you donated some to the auction!

Will we see you in the crowds next month?

    1. Glad the transfer approach is working for you! It certainly saves me a lot of headaches. Don't be too hard on yourself, I'm sure your shoes came out awesome! I improved so much from the first year to the second, there's definitely a learning curve!

I've done both approaches for stripes/diamonds: for the Cafe du Monde/Cafe du Muses shoe (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/535013630703607986/). I glittered the shoe in white then taped it then did the green stripes. This one was also taped - https://www.pinterest.com/pin/535013630703441065/. For the Maryland shoe (http://glitteringshoes.blogspot.com/2013/11/maryland-shoe.html) I used transferring. I also did a shoe where I painted a Harlequin diamond pattern on without tape or transfers. NEVER AGAIN!! That was bananas, took forever and wasn't even that pretty a result.

I personally preferred using transfers and thought the result was much cleaner, but both would work, so whatever you prefer (maybe try both?). If you're making transfers, you can also make all your stripes or diamonds at once and then glue them all at once, which appeals to me. The tape I used didn't pull the glitter off the shoe when I peeled it, but it might vary a little from shoe to shoe (a suede shoe will "grip" the glue and glitter more than a patent leather one, if that makes sense).

I will say this: if you're using the taping approach, I'd put the tape down, add your glue, add your glitter, then peel the tape off, then let it all dry (as opposed to letting it dry then peeling the tape off). If you get any of the glue overlapping over onto the tape, when you peel it, the dried glue is going to want to stick and your edges won't be as clean.

Also, lining your edges with trim (rhinestones or sequins) can mask the edges not being super clean and accentuate the pattern nicely.

So glad you like the site and have found stuff here helpful! The auction was very very exciting for me (even long distance). Next year hopefully I can attend in person! I'm so pleased about the money raised for a good cause!

I will definitely be there Thursday night (wouldn't miss Muses for the world!) Still have to decide on a plan of attack, as it's my baby's first Carnival and Muses is past his bed time...Hope you have a great ride!!

  4. Someone asked for specs over on Pinterest, but as Pinterest is now evidently limiting comment length and my specs wouldn't fit there, here they are: I primed the shoe with 2-3 coats of white spray paint first. The white glitter is from Jefferson Variety, the red is Martha Stewart "garnet." The head is a 3" styrofoam ball with these little glittery foam balls that unfortunately seem to be seasonal at Michael's (I couldn't find any this weekend, I know they had them at Halloween and Christmas in different colors). The cone I made from a craft foam sheet, Recollections "champagne" glitter and gold trim. The wings are glitter holy leaves from Michael's post-Christmas clearance.
